Day 1:
Upon arrival, enjoy a warm reception and transfer to your hotel in Lima. For those staying in a first class or deluxe class hotel, you will be welcomed with Peru´s national drink, Pisco Sour. This world famous Peruvian drink is as well known in the area as Tequila is in Mexico. A hard liquor made from the quebranta grape, Pisco comes from the city “Pisco” located 250 km. south of Lima. In the afternoon stroll through the main streets, squares and avenues of Lima. At the Main Square, we will have a view of the Presidential and Municipal Palaces as well as the Cathedral. The Cathedral holds the tomb of the Spanish Conqueror Francisco Pizarro and the museum of Religious Art. Then visit the residential districts of San Isidro and Miraflores until we arrive at the area where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean.
Day 2:
You will be transferred to the airport for your departure to Cusco. Upon arrival, enjoy a warm reception and transfer to your hotel. You will be welcomed with coca infusion tea (“mate de coca”) that will help you to get used to the altitude. Enjoy the rest of the morning at your leisure. In the afternoon, we will visit the imperial city of Cusco. Enter the Cathedral of Cusco to view of beautiful woodwork and colonial paintings containing extensive Incan iconography. Visit the Korikancha (Temple of Inti God - El Sol) on which the Santo Domingo Convent was built. Legend says this temple was completely gold coated, which impressed the conquerors upon their arrival. In the neighborhood of San Blas, with its artisans, we will visit the church of San Blas to see its impressively carved woodwork. Then there will be time to do some shopping at the most famous artisans´ market in the city.
Day 3:
Ascending to the Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman, we will visit Q´engo, the old temple of the Puma. Inside you can see a sacrificial alter made of a huge stone. At Tambomachay see the sacred fountains of life and health. Puca Pucará, “atalaya” (watchtower) safeguarded the city gates and the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. This beautiful place radiates peace and calmness. Enjoy views of the huge stones that were used in its construction, some reaching 4 meters high. The afternoon will be left to your leisure to visit other historical places included in the Cusco entrance passport.
Day 4:
Visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will go to the artisans´ market of Pisac, where colorful clothing is on display. While we are here familiarize yourself with the old traditions of the empire. There will be time to do some shopping before enjoying a buffet lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the fortress of Ollantaytambo. Here we will see the technique used by Incas to sculpt stones. We will stay overnight at the Sacred Valley.
Day 5:
You will be transferred to the station of Ollantaytambo to board the train to the Sacred City of Machu Picchu, considered by some to be the new spiritual center of the world. Travel through corridors as you visit the ceremonial centers and terraces. After a buffet lunch we will return to Cusco by train in the afternoon. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.
Day 6:
After being transferred to the bus station, depart in a regular tourist bus to Puno. On the way we will visit the Chapel of Andahuaylillas as well as one of the most important temples to Wiracocha God in Racchi. At this second temple, we will see vestiges of the columns that held the roof. This excursion will provide a real Andean experience because we will enjoy high, Andean views, stopping when necessary or when requested in order to take pictures. Lunch is on board. Before arriving to Puno we will visit Site Museum of Ruins of Pucara. Upon arrival in Puno, you will be transferred to your hotel.
Day 7:
In the morning, enjoy a short excursion to the sacred lake of the Incas, Titcaca. Visit the Floating Islands of the Uros Community, an old pre-Inca community that took refuge from the colonists on the waters of this lake. See how native people make their rafts using totora reeds and junco (plants) of the lake. In the afternoon, we will depart by bus to the pre-Inca cemetery of Hatun Colla Chiefs in Sillustani. It lies on the shore of the Lake Umayo. Such burial tombs, called “Chullpas,” may reach as high as 6 meters tall. Afterwards we will return to Puno.
Day 8:
AT time pick up & transfer to the airport for your flight back to Lima city, arrival and assistance for your flight back home ( optional overnihgt Hotel in Lima city)
