Tambo Tres Chimbadas is a small but comfortable jungle house built according to traditional native architecture and from only naturally fallen trees (drift wood). It is situated alongside a quebrada, on the edge of an oxbow lake (Tres Chimbadas) and is surrounded by 1,500 ha. (3,000 acres) of untouched virgin rainforest. The area consists of many different types of rainforest; high ground; terra firme, bamboo, floodplain and palm swamp, giving rise to an immense variety of flora and fauna.
The buildings consists of a dining room, a kitchen, a typically native single communal bedroom for 22 people capacity, and bathrooms with showers. Clean drinking water is available. Lighting is by candle-light and kerosene lamps as there is no electricity. All meals are cooked to a regional or national style, using only local ingredients. Any special dietary requirements, such as vegetarianism, can be catered for. The lodge also has a small library of books covering ecology, medicinal plants, and bird and mammal identification which can be read whilst relaxing in our comfortable hammocks. Our limit of 22 people ensures that we preserve the environment by having minimal impact.
To see Tres Chimbadas Lake is to experience one of the greatest gifts that nature can give; in its pristine condition time there feels as if it has been suspended. Surrounded by giant trees and palms it is home to piranhas, a large family of giant otters, the horned screamer with its unique braying and a wide variety of other lakeside birds such as kingfishers, waders, flycatchers and egrets. The lake is approximately 200 m. by 4 km. and trips on the lake are made only in dug-out canoes with paddles (holding approximately 8 people) to create minimum disturbance. Beautiful sunrises on the lake can be seen from the lodge, making this a place that really should be experienced for there are no words to describe it.
Our guides are bilingual (Spanish and English) and are experienced naturalists with much knowledge of the surrounding jungle, the insects, birds, reptiles, mammals and medicinal plants. With them or alone you can explore our 10 km. of trails that will lead you to immense green. One trail takes you to lake Tres Chimbadas passing by fabulous trees, curling lianas, exotic perfumes and hundreds of signs of insects and birds. Others, for night walks, let the senses appreciate the nocturnal sounds of the jungle, either deep in the forest or along the edge of the lake where you can hear the nightly chorus of frogs and nocturnal birds. Taking you to the “aguajales” (palm swamps), another trail will show you the impressive smallness of the human being. We also have trails passing mammal collpas and others that cross streams where the water trickles slowly through the shade of the tree tops through which the sun filters
