MANU PUSHARO PETROGLYPHS

The petroglyphs are a testimony of Pusharo outstanding cultural who inhabited in the Amazon Madre de Dios department this high concentration of signs taped on panels of monumental dimension makes these petroglyphs in one of the most important rock art of the world. In 2003 was recognized as archaeological heritage site by the National Institute Culture of Peru.
For many scientific explorers and treasure hunters the area of Pusharo is related to the legendary PITITI or to the lost gold city (EL DORADO).

Member of the native community Palotoa Teparo consider Pusharo as territory of their ancestors and interrelation with the petroglyphs, still up until a few years ago as apart of their rituals associated with events collection hunting of will animals
Location and Access
Pusharo is located in the middle of the river basin Palotoa, district and province Manu of Madre de Dios department in Southeast of Peru, altitude at 529 mt. Within the Manu National Park, a member of the National system of Protected Natural Area (SINANPE), under the jurisdiction and custody of the National Institute of Natural Resources (INRENA). Under the new zone of master plan of PNM. The site of Pusharo was published as a Historic Zone-Cultural PNM. Has covered 18.252.68 h. and is located in the southeast of the protected area.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: CUSCO – PILCOPATA:
We leave from Cusco by private bus, first stopping to visit the pre Inca burial towers of Ninamarca. We then drive through the mountains, to get to the typical and folkloric town of Paucartambo ; here we will take a short walk around the town before carrying on the Tres Cruces, the highest point and entrance to Manu National Park . From here we will continue  into the cloud forest and to San Pedro, we will walk for around 1hour to observe the National Bird of Peru, the Andean Cock of the Rock, and many different kinds of monkeys, plants and flowers . We arrive in Pilcopata at the evening where we will sleep in a local lodge.

DAY 2:PILCOPATA – PALOTOA:
After breakfast we will continue by private bus to Atalaya. On the way we will stop to observe a Coca plantation, we will also stop at a view point where you can get a good overview of the jungle and river. From Atalaya we leave by motorized boat to Palotoa (camping tents) we will arrive mid morning.  We will walk in the jungle and fish in the  small river, in the way we will appreciate many different kinds of the animals such as tapir , collared peccaries, monkeys, tayra, birds such as eagles, parrots, toucans, medicinal plants, flowers  and the giant trees  of the jungle. Then we will arrive to small oxbow lake to observe the pre- historical bird (hoatzin), after dark we will catch caimans. We will spend the night on our camp (tents).

DAY 3:  PALOTOA – PUSHARO:
We leave early morning after breakfast. We will take a small hike, where, on the way we will appreciate many kinds of the animals in their natural environment and different kinds of the flowers, medicinal plants, etc. After breakfast we walk thought the jungle to the Palotoa River , bringing necessary equipment with us, on the way the guide will explain about plants, insects, giant trees.  We continue by boat to native community (matsigenga), will arrive to typical lodge, we will spend the night.

DAY 4:  PUSHARO – HOT SPRING:
After breakfast we will walk for several hours for visit pusharos petroglifos (pre-inca culture) ,wrote on rock, near the river of 27 meters long and 2 meters height, the history say this  place  was the last Incas refuge, close to the lost city of Incas Paititi very mysterious, where   the ancestor made rituals for their Gods.
We will have fun in the river and catch fish, after we have the most beautiful experience, kid. seeing animals, watching birds, seeing pristine wildlife.  We will return by raft paddling until the mouth of Palotoa River ; and then we will continue by motor boat to the hot spring where we will swim in the natural medicinal hot water. We will spend the last night on the sand bank close to the bonfire, enjoying some drinks.

DAY 5: HOT SPRINGS – CUSCO:

Early in the morning we will go to see the parrots clay lick on the river wall, and then we will return to Shintuya, where our bus will be waiting for us. We will pass through cloud forest and arrive late in the evening, depending on the weather. End of our tour.
