The Hiram Bingham is a luxury train between Cusco and Machu Picchu. The train carries passengers on a spectacular journey through the changing landscapes and wonderful vistas of the beautiful Andes.
Departing from Poroy Station (a 20 minute taxi ride from Cusco) the Hiram Bingham gives a more leisurely start to the day than traditional departures. Brunch is served on board and guides are present to explain points of interest en route.
Upon arrival at Machu Picchu there will be a guided tour of the Machu Picchu citadel for you and entry tickets will have been pre-purchased.
After exploring the ruins, Afternoon Tea is served at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, located just steps from the ancient citadel.
Once back on board, pre-dinner cocktails are served, accompanied by live entertainment and a 4-course gastronomic menu.

The Hiram Bingham departs from Poroy Station (20 minutes outside Cusco) at 9am which gives a more leisurely start to the day than the traditional 6am departures of other train services to Machu Picchu.
Brunch is served on board the train whilst passengers watch the spectacular scenery unfolding before them. From the agricultural plains of the Sacred Valley, to the crashing waters of the Urubamba river, and as you get closer to Machu Picchu the soaring mountains, the scenery is constantly changing, and the Hiram Bingham travels at a speed where this can be appreciated.
The train arrives into Aguas Calientes where private minibuses await passengers to escort them on the fifteen minute journey up to the citadel, avoiding the queues.
Upon arrival at the Machu Picchu entrance, passengers can go straight into the citadel as tickets will have been pre-purchased for all guests.
A guide will escort you around the citadel in small groups, pointing out the best of the ruins and recounting the history of this Inca settlement..
After the guided tour, guests are given the choice to wander alone through this fascinating World Heritage site, or to enjoy Afternoon Tea at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, the Orient-Express hotel located right at the entrance to the citadel.
The Hiram Bingham departs at 18.00. Guests are welcomed back on board with pre-dinner cocktails served in the Bar Car with live musical entertainment. Later a 4-course, à la carte dinner is served in the dining cars. The train pulls into Poroy station just outside Cusco at 21.25. |

Q. Are there various menu options available?
A. Yes, there are different options available, allowing each passenger to select their preference.
Q. Do you offer a vegetarian option?
A. Yes, we offer a vegetarian menu.
Q. Where are the pre-dinner cocktails served?
A. Cocktails will be served in the Bar Car if the train is not full, otherwise they will be served in the Dining Cars.
Q. Is the Afternoon Tea private to Hiram Bingham passengers?
A. Yes, one of the restaurants at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge has being allocated for this purpose.
Q. If passengers prefer to stay at the Inca remains instead of having Afternoon Tea, will the tour guide stay with them?
A. No, the guide will go to the Afternoon Tea at the Sanctuary Lodge and will arrange a meeting point for those passengers who decide to stay in the Machu Picchu citadel.
Q. Is there a discount for passengers who do not want to take services included in the Hiram Bingham package?
A. No, unfortunately we cannot offer a discount.
Q. Are there tour guides on-board for non-English speaking passengers?
A. All tours are provided in English and Spanish. However, for groups of 15 or more we can offer the tour in the language that you require (French, German, Italian and Japanese). Please make arrangements with Trippers >>> in advance.
Q. Is the bus to and from Machu Picchu private to Hiram Bingham passengers?
A. Yes
Q. Is it possible to stay overnight at Machu Picchu?
A. Yes, however, the return journey is subject to availability. The Hiram Bingham package includes an entrance ticket to the Machu Picchu remains, and these must be used on the first day. Any extra costs on the second day for entrances, bus rides etc are at the passengers own expense.
Q. Will the Hiram Bingham depart earlier for passengers who stay overnight at Machu Picchu?
A. No, however, passengers who want to arrive back to Cusco earlier have the option of boarding another Trippers >>> service. Unfortunately, no discount is available on the Hiram Bingham rate. Passengers can combine the Hiram Bingham with another service on the way back with the same Hiram Bingham rate.
Q. How do you transport passenger luggage?
A. There is no special coach for luggage, so we suggest that passengers bring only items which are necessary for a day trip. An elegant Hiram Bingham travel bag will be provided for our passengers.
Q. Is the Hiram Bingham available for charter?
A. We always do our best to attend to our customer’s needs and the service will usually be available upon request.
Q. Do Tour Guides travel for free?
A. Unfortunately, due to limited space, tour guides cannot travel for free.
Q. What is the cost for tour guides travelling on the Hiram Bingham?
A. Tour Guides have to pay the full cost. However, there is the option to take an earlier PeruRail service to Machu Picchu, arriving before the Hiram Bingham.
Q. Do you offer any complimentary tickets for a particular number sold?
A. Unfortunately we cannot offer any complimentary tickets.
Q. Is there a different timetable for Charters?
A. The timetable for charters will be arranged in coordination with PeruRail on an individual basis for each group, according to each group’s needs and the safety regulations of the government and Trippers >>>.
