Duration : four days (and one additional day)
Access / exit: Route to Portachuelo in the Llanganuco valley (from the city of Yungay/Caraz)
Minimum altitude: 4200m (starting point of the expedition)
Maximum altitude: 6354m..

Day 1
Transport from the city of Caraz/Huaraz to the Portachuelo pass to arrive at the starting point on 4200m. We start to hike along the valley to approach the base camp (4300m).
Total time: 3 to 4 hours.

Day 2
Ascension until camp 1 (high camp). Following a ridge we cross the moraine to another ridge which also has a large inclination that leads to the moraine camp, located beside the glacier tongue (4850m). We continue to climb by traversing little walls and crevasses until camp 1 (5300m).
Total time: 6 to 7 hours (from the base camp).

Day 3
Ascension of the summit. We reach the southwest ridge by crossing small crevasses. Then we continue the ascension overcoming steep ridges (55 to 60 degrees) until the thin and exposed summit of Chopicalqui (6354m), from where you can admire the highest mountains in the Cordillera Blanca. Descent to the moraine camp (4850m).
Total time: 9 to 10 hours.

Day 4
We go down to the base camp, crossing the moraine once again, and then continue to the starting point of this climb. Return by bus to Caraz/Huaraz.
Total time: 5 to 6 hours.

Additional day
In consideration of the weather conditions or the physical state, day 2 or 3 of this itinerary is considered as security and acclimatization day. Because of this, the order of the days may vary.
