Tour Description

All our programmes can be tailor made according to your requirements, whether regarding the length of your tour, any special interests or specific activities, flight reservations, optional destinations or tours.

DAY 01: Puerto Maldonado / Corto Maltes
Reception at the airport and transfer to our office to make the necessary arrangements for your transportation through the river; embarking at Captainship Port and set off bound for the lodge, located at 30 minutes from the city. On arrival you will be greeted with a welcoming cocktail. Lunch.

After a brief rest, we will go on the first excursion that will take us deep into the tropical forest in order to discover a great variety of medicinal plants, tropical trees, insects and butterflies, on a 21/2 or 3-hour walk. We will take a short stop on a vantage point to watch the soar of the toucans and other birds. Return to the lodge, before dinner we will go on an amusing nocturnal "caiman safari" in a boat. Dinner.

DAY 02: Corto Maltes / Clay Lick of the Parrots
We wake up at 05:30 hours in order to go on a 20-minute walk to the clay lick, where a minimum of 5 different species of parrots come down to lick an especial kind of clay, indispensable for their metabolism. It is a truly wonderful and thrilling show. After that we will return to the lodge for breakfast to then set out bound for the Isle of the Monkeys, a place where some species of these interesting animals live with total freedom. We continue our trip in a canoe for approximately 30 minutes, until reaching the magical and awesome Sandoval Lake. We will go on a 5-kilometre hike across the exuberant tropical forest and later enjoy a picnic under the trees.
The lake is a privileged place where numerous animal species dwell, such as the river otter, gigantic and tiny birds such as the hoatzins, green kingfishers and anhingas, or monkeys such as the howler monkeys, common squirrel monkeys and brown faced capuchins, as well as the famous piranha and the immense paiche, or giant arapaima, a fish that can measure up to 2.50 metres and weigh more than 200 kilos. All these can be discovered comfortably installed in a rowing canoe until sunset.

We return up to the river at dusk in order to watch some animals of nocturnal habits. After a good renovating shower we will dine, and those interested can take part on an amusing chat lying on the hammocks placed at the restaurant's terrace.

DAY 03: Corto Maltes / Fruits Farming Field
After breakfast, we go on a rowing canoe expedition across a small mysterious river where we will have the chance of fishing, and if we get lucky, appreciating the huge Blue Morph Butterfly, and a variety of tropical birds. We will return to the lodge for lunch; after a restoring rest, we set off on a canoe with an outboard motor to visit what once was a hospital in the middle of the forest.

During the dry season we can walk in the forest in search of the Lost Boat, the amazing presence of an old steamer in the midst of the Amazonian thicket. Before returning to the lodge we make a stop at a chacra (a small farming field) where we will have the chance of tasting some tropical fruits from the zone. Dinner.

DAY 04: Corto Maltes / Puerto Maldonado
Breakfast and return to the city, where we will visit the fruit market of Puerto Maldonado if time allows. Transfer to the airport for your departure.

Note: The visit to the market can be arranged on the first day, depending on the time of arrival or departure to and from Puerto Maldonado.
