Raqchi -Canchis Cusco

The Inca city of raqchi, is located at the 72.7 miles, to the south of the city of Cusco, is located in the district of San Pedro, providence of Ccanchis, department of Cusco.
Raqchi is at an altitude of 11,220 feet above sea level.

This archeological complex is near the communities of Raqchi and Qea for the most part and the other parts are really near the communities of Machajmarka and Qeromarka. In the grounds there is lots of black rocks that are very light, this rocks are volcanic. Near hear there is the mouth of a volcano that is no longer active called Kimsach’ata. When the Spanish arrived, one could still see the memory of a fairy rain that devastated this area.
The most important aspect that this place has is the temple of Wiracocha, the appreciation of the entire complex it lead us to believe in what we see today. The rest of the complex is left as evidence of how it was back then. Group of housing, temples, palaces, astronomic view points, aqueducts, food deposits, streets, and land for cultivating and also a wall that surrounded the entire place.
It is a huge Pre- Hispanic complex, the most important place is the temple of Wiracocha; the appreciation of the entire complex, conduced us to a town that shows us how was it in Inca times, the major part of it, that was the city and the tambo. It had what a city must has like: housing, temples, astronomic observatories, palaces, aqueducts, food supplies, streets, squares, fields and peripheral walls.
The temple of Wiracocha is unique in the place that was the Thahuantisuyo, no other pre-Spanish monument is compared with it, the characteristic are very peculiar, is the only building that presents circular shape, is the only temple that has four naves. Nothing like this is found in Saqsaywaman, Machu Picchu, Pisaq and Ollantaytambo.
Raqchi has a varied weather, is very mild and dry in the season of autumn and winter (april-october), rainy and humid in the seasons of spring and summer. The temperatures during the day and night ranges from 54 ºF and 68 ºF during the day and lowering considerably in the nights with temperatures below the 32ºF.

How to get Raqchi?
It is located a few kilometers before arriving to Sicuani, you can take a Private Tour, Private transportation or public transportation. It takes 50 minutes from Cusco.
